Transgender Athletes: A Comprehensive Study - Part IV

Sports Affected with Transgender to Date

‘World Athletics’, the governing body for track and field, announced that transgender women who had gone through male puberty could no longer compete in women’s events in international competitions. FINA, swimming’s world governing body, has essentially prohibited transgender women from the highest levels of women’s International competition. The governing body’s proposal creates an “open category” of competition to “protect competitive fairness.”

Doriane Lambelet Coleman, who competed in track and field internationally during the 1980s and is a professor at Duke Law School, said many aspects of the new rule were an “attractive” way to reconcile the issues around trans athletes, which span many institutions and levels of sports, from youth recreation to elite competition. “Having a one-size-fits-all solution,” she said, would not make sense — even if the new proposal puts more of an onus on schools. She added that each institution weighs “fairness and inclusion really differently,” and it makes sense to take a more “bespoke” approach.

The Case of Power Lifting

New Zealand's Winner Hubbard

Belgian weightlifter Anna Van Bellinghen has hit out at the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and branded Laurel Hubbard's inclusion at the Tokyo Olympics "a terrible joke". Van Bellinghen competes in the same 87kg-plus division as Hubbard. The 27-year-old says she supports the transgender community but not at the expense of others. "Anyone that has trained weightlifting at a high level knows this to be true in their bones: this particular situation is unfair to the sport and to the athletes," "I understand that for sports authorities, nothing is as simple as following your common sense and that there are a lot of impracticalities when studying such a rare phenomenon, but for athletes, the whole thing feels like a bad joke," Van Bellinghen added. "Life-changing opportunities are missed for some athletes - medals and Olympic qualifications – and we are powerless."

IOC guidelines issued in 2015 state that transgender athletes can compete in women's events, provided their testosterone level is below 10 nanomoles per litre at least 12 months before their initial competition. She is currently ranked 16th in the world, but several of the athletes above her were absent from the Games due to IWF rules that limit nations to only one lifter per category i.e., the transgender took the qualification away).

Samoan Weightlifting Federation president Jerry Wallwork, whose athletes have competed against Hubbard in regional events since her transition, told “InsidetheGames” while he opposed allowing Hubbard to participate in qualification events, the real issue lies with the IOC. “More research should go into this issue, or a separate category must be established for transgender lifters,” he told InsidetheGames. “Especially in contact sports and power sports like weightlifting, there is a disadvantage for female athletes against transgender athletes.”

USA Powerlifting has been ordered by a Minnesota state court to revise its policy within two weeks and allow biological men who identify as women to compete in women’s divisions following an anti-discrimination lawsuit. The ruling requires the organization to “cease and desist from all unfair discriminatory practices,” which in this case means limiting inclusion based on gender identity.

The original complaint was filed in 2019 by JayCee Cooper, a trans-identifying man who accused the organization of violating the state’s Human Rights Act by barring men from female competitions. Cooper filed a lawsuit against USA Powerlifting in state court in 2021. USA Powerlifting may appeal this decision, as this ruling creates an obvious issue for the future of the female division in powerlifting, as men will begin to regularly win competitions and set new records for major lifts in the female categories.

36 Trans Athletes Have Competed Openly in College

Swimmer Lia Thomas ignited a debate over trans inclusion in college sports. She’s not the first or last to compete. She is one of the latest transgender athletes to compete for a college team while “being out” to teammates and coaches. According to “Outsports”, almost three dozen trans athletes from college sports have been out publicly while competing, all in the last decade. Some of them are trans men, some are trans women. Some have competed on a men’s or non-gendered team, but most have competed on a women’s team. “Outsports” knows there are countless other trans athletes who have competed at the collegiate level who have not been publicly out or out to teammates. Fordham basketball player Bryson Cavanaugh decided to forgo his senior season and the WNBA Draft to come out as trans and begin his transition; Duke rower Liam Miranda waited until after competing to come out publicly.

Given the transition requirements for many college athletes to compete as their gender, waiting to come out can be a matter of competing with their friends and teammates or not. Yet here are at least three dozen trans athletes who have been out while competing, each of whom has competed at the college level, whether it be NCAA, NAIA or community college. Three trans athletes we know of – Lia Thomas (swimming), CeCé Telfer (track & field) and Braden Abrahamsen (bowling) – won a national championship, with Telfer and Thomas winning individual titles. Several others have earned conference honours. According to Zeigler and Webb (April 17, 2023), the following sports have transgender males competing in College Sports in the various Divisions.

Individual Sports:

  • Cross-Country

  • Equestrian

  • Fencing

  • Figure skating

  • Golf

  • Rowing

  • Squash

  • Swimming + Diving

  • Tennis

  • Track & Field

  • Wrestling

Team Sports:

  • Basketball

  • Field hockey

  • Ice hockey

  • Lacrosse

  • Rugby

  • Soccer

  • Softball

  • Volleyball

Most college sporting events are organized by the NCAA (National College Athletic Association), but some aren't and may have different policies (11). The NCAA says a trans female "may not compete on a women's team without changing it to a mixed team status until completing one calendar year of testosterone suppression treatment." NCAA athletes transitioning from male to female must suppress their testosterone production (to a level that's still much higher than a biological female's) for a year.

Transgender Success

This is just a small glimpse of sporting events in which trans women – who were born male and went through puberty as males – have dominated. And we can expect to see more of this as the amount of male-born athletes signing up to compete as women increase. Most sporting federations have no problem allowing trans men to compete as biological men. Why? Because they can affirm their identities, inject testosterone, and play against men who naturally make a lot of testosterone. However, it should not be about politics but biology, which is now under political and Woke Culture assault.

  • In February 2019, two trans athletes born male) took first and second place at the Connecticut state high school track championship

  • In 2018, before the USAPL changed their rules, JayCee Cooper, a trans powerlifter, set records in women's bench press after only having power lifted for a year.

  • In 2018, trans cyclist, Rachel McKinnon, took first among the women at the UCI Masters Track Cycling World Championship

  • In 2017, transgender weightlifter, Laurel Hubbard, set master's world records and won the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

  • In 2014, transgender pro-MMA fighter Fallon Fox beat Tamikka Brents, giving her a concussion and broken orbital bone

  • Breanna Gill recently won the Australian Women’s Classic in the city of Bonville in New South Wales, according to ⦁ WPGA Australia. While little has been reported on Gill’s personal history, ⦁ Golf Monthly and others have noted his transgender status. Megyn Kelly, US Journalist and Talkshow host loses it (April 4, 2023)… after Man wins Women's Professional Golf Tournament: 'It's a Fraud, It's Immoral!’

  • May 11, 2023: Cynisca Cycling parted ways with its director and three-time Olympian Inga Thompson on Thursday ( May 11) after she called on cyclists to protest against the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI)'s transgender athlete policy. Thompson called for the protest Sunday after Austin Killips, a transgender female, won the Tour of the Gila overall category against biological females.

  • Caitlyn Jenner (former 1976 Bruce Jenner and Olympic Gold medalist – my idol for his fantastic performances in the decathlon) slammed Nike for turning “woke” over its partnership with trans-TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney (Budweiser poster girl) – seven years after her own collaboration as a trans-woman with a sportswear line.

  • Martina Navratilova, the legendary tennis player, has also stood up for the athletic rights of women and girls. She said, "I am happy to address a transgender woman in whatever form she prefers, but I would not be happy to compete against her. It would not be fair." Navratilova, who's said to be one of the leading advocates for gay rights, was removed from her position in the non-profit group “Athlete Ally” because of her beliefs. Her advocacy for the LGBT community shows that she doesn't hate trans people. She just doesn't like the idea of a person who's acquired male athletic advantages competing against those who haven't. But don't be surprised if she gets bullied into changing her position on the subject

  • Sharron Davies, who won a silver medal in swimming in the 1980 Olympics, also tweeted: "I have nothing against anyone who wishes to be transgender. However, I believe there is a fundamental difference between the binary sex you are born with and the gender you may identify with. To protect women's sports, those with a male sex advantage should not be able to compete in women's sports." She later said in an interview that all the international athletes she's spoken with agree with her position but are afraid to speak out. As expected, Davies has been labelled as transphobic.

And the trend continues into more female sports. There are 1.4 million adults who identify as transgender in the U.S., which is less than 1% of the population in each state, according to the Williams Institute at UCLA's law school. The number is more difficult to determine for trans children because many are in various stages of transitioning or possibly fear for their safety. There's no official count of trans athletes in youth, high school or college sports. Most sports associations at youth, high school and college levels do not keep a count of how many trans athletes are competing. At the collegiate level, there are at least 50 trans women competing on female sports teams in the United States, according to Joanna Harper, an author and researcher at Britain's Loughborough University. She said it would be "almost impossible" to determine how many trans athletes compete at the youth and high school levels. Opponents worry it could cause negative mental health effects on trans athletes. More than half of transgender and non-binary youth have seriously considered suicide, according to the Trevor Projects. Over 40% of respondents report being physically harmed or threatened because of their orientation.  The latest estimate.

“When transgender athletes compete against women, Women’s Sports are no longer Women’s Sports; they become unisex athletic events. This bill would protect the opportunity of girls throughout America to athletically compete against other girls” (Utah US Sen. Mike Lee). In 2017, the U.S. women’s soccer team played a friendly against an under-15 MLS training academy boys team in Texas. The women lost 5-2. They won the Women’s World Cup two years later.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Transgender

The IOC was created by Pierre de Coubertin, on 23 June 1894, with Demetrios Vikelas as its first president. While the gender gap appears to be closing for the athletes, the same is not true of the Olympic movement's leadership, although it has improved over the past decades. By the IOC's own admission, women's participation remains "low". It claims some success since 2013; more women have been appointed to the commissions that support the IOC – women now take up 38% of places.

According to the Olympic Studies Centre, IOC Press Office, May 2, 2023

(Schloder and IOC communication): The current number of IOC members is 99, of which 40 are female, 59 are male, 45 are honorary members, and one is an Honor member (Henry Kissinger, USA). The IOC Executive Board comprises 15 individuals in total – the IOC President, four Vice Presidents and 10 members. Only four individuals are female, which is 27 percent. Of the 135 national Olympic committees that responded to an IOC survey in 2015, only 11 had a woman president, that is 8%. Of the 2023 IOC members, 40 are presently women, and all 45 honorary members are male.

That means most of the IOC are men who may not support the women’s cause against transgender, given the television, media, and advertisement revenue driven by the Woke culture and gender ideology. And whereas the IOC has maintained over centuries that the organization is ‘apolitical’. The events and slow actions on behalf of women suggest otherwise. Driven by the Olympic ideal of ‘Citius - Altius - Fortius’[Faster - Higher - Stronger], it is also driven by economic success and immense revenues from broadcasting rights, marketing rights sales, advertisements, sponsorships, and ticket sales. The revenue for the Olympiad spanning from 2017-2020/2021 and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games was USD 7.6 billion. 410 Million

  • May 23, 2022: For 2021, the IOC said it recognized US$4.2 billion in total revenue courtesy of the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Games.

  • Total assets on 31st December 2021 were US$5.6 billion compared to US$5.7 billion in 2020. Cash and cash equivalents of current assets were US$548.9 million, down from US$866.6 million at the end of 2020.

  • The IOC’s Olympic Partner (TOP) worldwide sponsorship programme brought in US$835.6 million in revenue for 2021.

  • Television broadcasting rights pulled in US$3.1 billion.

It remains to be seen if the IOC rises to the occasion to protect Women's Sports or caves to the Woke Culture pressure due to Corporate sponsorships and Broadcasting Rights.

  • Increase of Injuries

In search of a level playing field. How male-to-female transgender athletes are impacting women’s sports. Several serious injuries have occurred. A trans female slammed the opponent to the floor, causing a concussion. A high school volleyball match in North Carolina was halted when a male transgender competitor spiked the ball into the head of one of the girls on the opposing team at such great velocity (hurling at 70 mph) that the girl sustained lasting injuries to her head and neck. (National Review). She is still recovering from long-term concussion symptoms, including problems with her vision. She has not yet been approved to compete again (Downey, October 22, 2022). Transgender Pro-MMA fighter Fallon Fox beat Tamikka Brents, giving her a concussion and broken orbital bone in 2014 (Shugart, October 11, 2019). The list could continue though it is evident through the available data that transgender invasion into Women’s Sports has been going on for some time

  • Galerie of ‘Pseudo Women’ Competing in Women’s Sports

  • Glenique Frank, Transgender London Women’s Marathon Winner 2023

Transgender runner Glenique Frank on Sunday defeated thousands of women in the female category of the London Marathon on April 23, 2023, after competing as a man in the New York City race just months prior.

More Absurdity and More to Come

Delaware County Councilman Ryan Webb first made the announcement in a Facebook post on April 12, where he stated that with all of the newfound genders and self-identities in the world today, he finally feels comfortable "coming out" and living life as his "true authentic self." "After much consideration, I have decided to come out and finally feel comfortable announcing my authentic self. With great relief, I announce to everyone that I identify as a woman, not just any woman but as a woman of colour. I guess this would make me gay/lesbian as well since I am attracted to women," Webb said on Facebook. "I’m excited to bring some diversity to the county council."

And there is the case of Valentina Petrillo, to become the first openly transgender woman to compete at the Paralympics. For the visually impaired Italian, selection for the national squad would be a dream come true – but she says she understands why other athletes may have doubts and questions about racing against her. It was only at the age of 41 that she finally started running again, winning 11 national titles in three years in the male T12 category for athletes with visual impairment. She is now 47 years old and recognizes that this is her last chance to compete at the Paralympics, but she wants to keep running whether she gets to Tokyo or not.

In fact, it was only last September that she ran her first official race as a female para-athlete – at the Italian Paralympics Championship, where she won gold in the 100m, 200m and 400m T12 events.

And it keeps going. Not just in women’s sports but anything Women do or engage in. The invasion of Women’s unique College/University organizations, such as sororities, is now the new tactic to crush women’s privileges at higher education institutes. Seven sorority sisters at the University of Wyoming sue Kappa Kappa Gamma to challenge the induction of a transgender member. The members claim that inducting the transgender woman, identified by the pseudonym Terry Smith, in the fall of 2022 violated Kappa Kappa Gamma's bylaws. Is this by design and are women in regression?
