Tip of the Week - November Recap

Coach Monika says…

The Aging Coach

As we, Coaches, get older, do we ever think about ourselves? Have enough ‘free time’ to keep our spirits and energy up? Starting to feel the aging process? Do we feel pressure to keep up? Do you need reading glasses or a hearing aid? Be sure to hide this one because ‘vanity’ comes into play! Are you keeping a healthy weight? I see many coaches of the 50+ age ‘schlepping’ up and down the poolside, pushing the ‘round thing called belly ahead!’ So get some advise from the author below to understand the aging process and the ‘happenings’ to your body! This is a reprint from: Shin Ohtake, Fitness & Fat Loss Expert, Author of MAX Workouts According to science, there’s a difference between chronological age and biological age, which means one can be 50 years old and literally have a body of a 40 year old. I’m sure you’ve met someone that not only looks 10 years younger, but also has boundless energy and stamina. That being said, I’m sure you’ve seen the exact opposite as well, someone that looks and acts much too OLD for his/her actual age. Here are some facts:

Week 1:

Metabolism slows down to a snail’s pace as one ages. This makes burning fat and losing weight next to impossible.

Week 2:

Hormones responsible for all of the youth-like qualities such as healthy skin tone, strong lean muscle, robust energy and insatiable sex drive, start declining more and more each year that goes by. If not proactive, youth enhancing hormone levels may drop so low that there is no turning back

Week 3:

Aging makes bones weaker and more brittle by robbing the body of vital minerals that are essential for strong bones. This is the reason so many elderly people suffer from hip fractures that can lead to even more serious medical complications.

Week 4:

It’s not just the physical qualities that get negatively affected by aging…the brain suffers as well.  Memory, ability to solve problems, and decision-making skills all start to decline and worsen each year
