Tip Of the Week - July Recap

Coach Monika says… Week 1: Coaches have to teach, develop and foster self-determination of young athletes by helping them to establish reasonable and attainable goals. Week 2: Giving positive feedback on a task serves only to increase athletes’ intrinsic motivation and decreases extrinsic motivation for the task. Week 3: Negative feedback has the opposite effect as it decreases intrinsic motivation by taking away the need for competence. Week 4: Young athletes need to learn and be taught that achieving a goal requires the ability to persist through obstacles and show endurance to keep going in spite of difficulties.
